DR. GROSSMAN WILL BE GIVING THREE (3) PUBLIC LECTURES IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER:


A.  The NYC Parks Arts Culture and Fun Public Lecture Series:  Two (2) public lectures will be presented by the Office of the Manhattan Borough Commissioner, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation -

Entitled: The Buried Archaeology of Manhattan Island

B.  The New Amsterdam History Center in conjunction with the Colgate Church Corporation is hosting Bringing 17th Century New Amsterdam to Life a panel discussion and mini-lectures by leading scholars on the history and archaeology of New Amsterdam as part of the New York City-wide Five Dutch Days celebration of Dutch heritage.


Joel Grossman, Courtney Haff, George Janes and Warren Shaw will discuss 1650 Dutch Manhattan and new technologies to make the settlement's likely appearance and landscape readily accessible. 

Dr. Grossman will use new evidence from recently published colonial maps, archaeological excavations and advanced 3D computer modeling to present some alternate projections of how the fledgling settlement may have actually appeared in the mid-17th century.
